Fave characters of 2011:

We love them, we hate them, we care for them even more than we want or should.
They are all here to make us smile or cry, they take us on all their journeys and they make us believe that all is possible when you close your eyes and dream.
They give us hope, they make us ache, they take us back in time to meet our younger selves.
They are good, they are bad, and in between they are all lovely characters and it’s always hard to say goodbye when the last page of the book is being turned.

But don’t say goodbye, just say hello to these amazing characters that I will keep with me, in my heart, forever.

1. favourite female main character

Karou from Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

Karou was one of the best female characters I’ve ever read about. It’s strange because she was so different than me, but I could so easily relate to her, to her thoughts, her feelings, her deepest whishes.

2. favourite male main character

Josh from Summer in the city by Elizabeth Chandler

Josh was one of the best male characters I’ve read about in a while – he made me laugh, he made me fall for him, he made me smile seeing how easily you can misinterpret everything you see or hear. He is one of a kind.

3. best couple

Macy and Wes from The Truth about Forever by Sarah Dessen

They are adorable, too adorable for words.
It was such a slow development, in the best possible way, it made me feel like a teenager again, falling in love for the first time.. I loved their truth game and the way they kept finding out things about each other, it was nice to see how perfectly they fit together, how close they became day by day.

4. who i so want to be best friends with

Henry from Catching Jordan

He was the cute one, the funny one, the one that makes you laugh until you choke, the one that you want to give breathless hugs, the one that you want to kiss for being so sweet, the one with a “take me home” sign on his forehead.

5. who i fell completely in love with (new literary crush)

Jonah Griggs From the Jellicoe Road and Ed/Shadow from Graffiti Moon

Jonah:  “If you weren’t driving, I’d kiss you senseless,” I tell him. He swerves to the side of the road and stops the car abruptly. “Not driving anymore.” … Read More!

Ed: “Her words are paintings, and I’m painting them on the wall in my head as she talks”Read More!

6. worst (best & baddest) villian

Warner from Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi

…But mostly I loved the moments spent in the army facility with Warner. Off course one of the main reasons for this is because I liked Warner, I think he was my favorite character.Don’t look at me like that.. Yes, I liked him more than Adam, because Warner was more interesting, less cliché and I liked his lines better (done…I’ve said it).

7. best character twist (who you loved then hated or vice versa)

Valeka from Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder

Oh, how I hated this guy at the beginning. But at some point I realised that there was so much more to him that met the eyes, and I started to like him.. a lot..

“That sounds more like a poison than a person,” was all I could say. His confession had both shocked and thrilled me.“Exactly,” Valek replied. “You have poisoned me.”

8. best kick-arse female

Evanjalin from Finnikin of the Rock by Melina Marchetta

A young novice that in the beginning does not tell as much, but as the story unfolds there are no words enough to express all that she holds inside, all that she had lived in those 10 years since the “five days of the unspeakable”. Also she is the best female character I’ve read about in a while.

9. best kick-arse male

Four from Divergent by Veronica Roth

He was a tough guy, but he also cared about Tris and their love story was really sweet.

“Then I realize what it is. It’s him. Something about him makes me feel like I am about to fall. Or turn to liquid. Or burst into flames.”

10. broke your heart the most

Shaun Mason  from Deadline by Mira Grant

I don’t remember caring so much about a fictional character, but Shaun felt so real, his emotions raw and powerful, his sarcasm making me smile, his pain making me sad. At the end of Feed he had to make some radical decisions that left him being only a shadow of his old self, with his craziness as his only anchor keeping him somehow sane.

11. broke your heart part two

North from Brightly Woven by Alexandra Bracken

There was something so sad heartbreaking about North and his story that made me want to hold him tight in my arms and take away all of his pain. I wanted him to be happy, I wanted Syd to love him, I wanted them to be happy. Also it was nice to see their relationship develop slowly from anger and hate, to friendship and compassion, and then finally turning into love.

12. best YA parents award

Six Impossible Things by Fiona Wood

Parents are an interesting topic in this story – we get to know various types of parents and they deliver a great amount of humor. Also the kids are showing what I always say: don’t let your kids do something and they will always find a way to go around your restrictions.

13. favourite sibling relationship

You Against Me by Jenny Downham

Mickey is trying to take care of his family – his sister Karyn going through such a rough time, his little sister so innocent of all this […]

Ellie in a way is trying to just the same thing – take care of her brother – but more than that she wants to get through the trial and be free again […]

14. favourite best friends/friendship award

Harper, Jake & Laney from Saving June

They make mistake, yes, but they know how to say “I’m sorry”, they are broken but strong enough to hold each other… They became your friends, and you are happy for them and you giggle with them, and you are sad with them and you want to cry for them.. They feel so real that it’s impossible not to care for them..

15. best/worst character names

Worst names: Pagan Moore and Dank from Existence by Abbi Glines (review to come)
I really couldn’t get past these names. Maybe they are not that bad for you but my ears couldn’t handle them.

Best names:
What can I say, I like simple names like: Ana form Incarnate by Jodi Meadows; Natalie from Not That Kind of girl; June from Saving June; Clara from Hallowed.
Or some more different like: Sydelle from Brightly Woven;
Or even classical like Lizbeth from  Blood Song.

Bonus: best love triangle

Hallowed by Cynthia Hand

I hate love triangles, but Hallowed managed the best so far.
Not sure yet if it really qualifies for a “love triangle” and I can’t say much about it because I don’t want to spoil anything for you, but still, I gave it the award and I must confess that I loved it a lot. Can’t wait to see how the story unfolds in the last book of the series.

Karou is fantastic (anyone with blue hair is ;D) and any man who can work heels is a favorite, Josh is a great pick! (you make me want to read the book again!) Wes & Macy are the perfect couple<3 Ed is also a big favorite, Cath Crowley broke my heart when she created him because he's perfect & I can;t have him</3 Four is definitely kick ass, I liked that he wasn't too sweet. He could man up & order people around & I loved when he threw that knife at Tris, what can I say? a man who knows his ways with weapons = sexy xD Our sibling relationship are same (Mikey<3) & so are out bestfriend. Harper+Laney are first BFF who managed to to annoy me. Pagan & Dank are definitely awful names -.- I hope the book was better though! I really need to read Unearthly, I have heard all fantastic things about it & the sequel thats not even out yet!

    -thank you&come again.

I have a big-big heart because I love lots of characters.
And I love so much to find great books with lovely characters that make me laugh and/or that stay with me long after I close the book. All the above are on my list of faves, and of course there are many more where these ones came from ;))

      Happy holidays, sweetie!
